I was brought up going to church every Sunday morning as well as Wednesday nights in the beginning of my life. The church that I went to was called the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. Going to church and knowing God is great! Although at this church the only things that I learned from going to the church for 18 years was that:
- Women can’t cut their hair
- You can’t have sex before marriage
- You can’t curse
- You can’t get divorced
- You can’t go to the doctor
I do not feel like these are the only things that I should have learned for going to church for that long. And, I definitely do NOT believe all of these things. They made it seem like if these things were done, you were going to hell.
Before I stopped going to church there, people would always preach about how women shouldn’t cut their hair…. Every time I went I felt like such a hypocrite; hypocrite definition. For some reason I just always felt like I was not going to ever be good enough. So, I stopped going.
I have come to believe that God loves you as long as you strive to serve Him. I have finally found a type of church where I can be comfortable being myself and not be
ing judged every time I walk through the doors and that is a great feeling!
